The Season of Stani is an ethnographic film centered on the survival of seasonal pastoralism and transhumance practices in the highlands of Isniq (Milishevc). Through direct engagement, anthropologists Çlirimtare Januzaj and Urtesë Zeneli gather ethnographic material and present the mountain pasture as a sacred space of memory, a place of spiritual ties, family histories, and collective identity. The film follows one family through the seasonal cycle, from their ascent into the mountains to their return at the end of summer. Yet this is also a world in transition. Tradition endures in fragility. While documenting one of the oldest forms of human livelihood, the researchers also leave open the question of whether this practice will survive in the future.
Following the screening of the ethnographic film, a discussion will take place with Çlirimtare Januzaj, Urtesë Zeneli, and Fellowship Program Coordinator Idila Ibrahimi.
Urtesë Zeneli is a filmmaker and cultural anthropologist from Kosovo whose work brings together ethnographic research and visual storytelling. She explores how social, political, and cultural dynamics shape everyday life, from borders and identity to digital communities and contemporary visual culture.
Çlirimtare Januzaj is a cultural anthropologist from Kosovo. Her work focuses on cultural heritage, oral history, collective memory, and post-war contexts, with a particular emphasis on documenting transhumant pastoralism in Kosovo’s mountain regions, as well as the long-term impacts of political violence.
