An Embodied Archive
Dion Zeqiri
An Embodied Archive by Dion Zeqiri explores the relationship between the body and socialist-modernist architecture in Kosovo through a series of photographs documenting his headstand performances at various architectural sites. By physically engaging with these spaces, Zeqiri highlights their symmetry, geometry, and materiality while examining how architecture and bodies shape and influence each other. The photographs, presented in a reversible fanzine designed by Urtina Hoxha, are complemented by a map marking ten Prishtina locations where the performances occurred.
This project continues Zeqiri’s work with ready-mades and memory-laden objects, blending performance and photography to challenge how architectural heritage is experienced and archived. His interventions reveal the dynamic interplay between space, orientation, and embodiment, urging viewers to reflect on the impressions architecture leaves on the body and vice versa.
The performances took place at various sites across Prishtina, Kosovo, including Tregu i Gjelbër (Pazari te Djathi), the Valës building near Qafa, the Prishtina Municipality, the Gërmia Department Store, the back of the Palace of Youth and Sports, the back of the Grand Hotel, the entrance of the Student Mensa, Kurrizi (across from Hyvzi Sylejmani), the main offices of the Bus Station, and the second entrance of the Shopping Center (upstairs).
